Students from Pasadena ISD’s Career & Technical High School walked away from Marek with tools for success this week. Mr. Garza’s Construction Technology class visited Marek offices on Wednesday, January 13th, where students participated in a hands-on power tools workshop, learned about construction safety, and tested out some of the latest technology in the construction world.
The ongoing partnership between Pasadena ISD and Marek is one of strength and promise. Marek professionals worked with 21 eager students. Students walked away with the skills to operate various drywall construction tools such as the chop, skill and miter saws, saws all, zip router and the track fast. Students took a step into the future while learning about the up and coming technology available to the construction industry such as the Total Station and the Samsung Gear VR. Most importantly, students got hands on with safety! The youth practiced harnessing up and safe methods while operating scissor lifts.
Students learned about the history of Marek first hand from Stan Marek as they enthusiastically asked questions and listened intently for his answers. Mr. Garza stated, “Students were impressed that Mr. Marek himself came down and talked about the real world and how he is fighting to make construction a higher paying career.”
Students left with tools for success as Marek professionals encouraged them to pursue their dreams and do so with grand motivation. One student exclaimed, “Mr. Garza, all they do is say how much they love and are happy to come to work and they want us to come work with them.” From all of us at Marek, we look forward to the continuation of this rewarding partnership with Pasadena ISD.
