Marek was happy to aid in the planning of and to participate in the San Antonio Construction Career Day which was held on April 9th at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall. The event benefited 600 students who were given the opportunity to explore the different professions which are offered in the construction industry.
At the event students had the opportunity to discuss careers, learn about the various apprenticeship opportunities, meet with local and state colleges, learn about BIM, and participate in several hands on demonstrations. Twenty students even competed in a student build competition where they were judged on safety, construction, electrical, plumbing, and team work.
The goal of this event was to help meet the needs of high school students who are making career decisions and the construction industry facing a workforce shortage. Students learned that whether they were interested in math, carpentry, plumbing, or engineering, that there was a challenging, rewarding and well paid profession for them there.
We believe that this event was a great success and we look forward to planning another one in 2015. We hope to get more companies and students involved, there has been great feedback that has been truly encouraging and it reminds you why it is important to keep promoting industry awareness and events like this.
