Personal Safety Measures

The Marek Family of Companies is responsible for training you in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and of the safety hazards applicable to your workplace.

However, you are also an important player in jobsite safety and security. The simplest of tasks, such as placing trash where it belongs, picking up extension cords when not in use, and stacking material out of the way, may seem unimportant and unnecessary, until someone gets hurt.

Use the following personal safety measures to keep yourself and others safe at the job site.

Personal Safety Measures

General safety rules that can help you avoid injury are:

▪ Wear the appropriate clothing for the job you are doing. Winter cold and summer heat can present problems on the job.

▪ Long sleeve clothes might help prevent lacerations on forearms and elbows, but they are not a replacement for Kevlar sleeves, arm protection should always be worn to prevent injuries.

▪ Wear steel toe or composite safety boots

▪ Personal protective gear must always be a part of your wardrobe when appropriate. Safety glasses, hardhats and safety shoes should be part of your permanent equipment and worn when required.

▪ When it comes to PPE, for liability reasons we only use company assigned hard hats. We understand there is a variety of selections and preferences, but to keep our compliance and uniformity, employees are not allowed to bring personal preferred PPE such as body harnesses, hardhats, glasses, safety vest etc.

▪ Only approved PPE with the MAREK logo is allowed on company projects. If you have a question regarding an item please consult with your local office. Not being familiar with company policy is not an excuse or approval to use any item without previous approval.

▪ Safety Vest are required on all jobsites unless instructed by your safety manager differently, the safety vest must be a Class 2 per ANSI regulations.

▪ Per ANSI standards:
    o Orange Safety Vest

• Traffic Signalers

• Construction site workers

o Yellow Safety Vests

▪ Prevent Accidents

▪ Construction Workers

▪ Emergency Responders

▪ Workers who work outdoors

▪ Rings, earrings, watches, wedding rings, bracelets, necklaces, body piercing, facial jewelry and other jewelry are always a hazard, and they are not to be worn at work.

▪ Wearing jewelry at work could result in:

• o Torn earlobes

  o Injured fingers, hands wrists, neck

• o Amputated fingers or limbs

• o Electric shock

• o Lost time from work

  o The need for medical care

▪ All jewelry can get caught in power tools or stuck against objects, surface areas and moving parts of machinery.

▪ Horseplay is not tolerated

▪ Never participate in or tolerate horseplay. Supposed fun can turn into tragedy.

Remember!! Always be aware of safety on the job site. It could save your life, so keep site safety at the front of your mind
